Semrush and Over the Fence answer different questions

Use Semrush for SEO and Over the Fence to know what each rival changed. Semrush’s plans track 500 to 5,000 keywords a day, and its SEO + AI Search plans track 50 to 200 AI prompts a day. Over the Fence reads the rivals you name for you. Every day it reads the top of each rival’s homepage and the prices of a short list of its products. Every week it reads their whole sites, then tells you what changed and what to do first. If you pay for Semrush, keep it. It answers a different question.

Together

How teams use both

  1. Keep Semrush for keyword research, links, site audits and daily rank tracking.
  2. Add Over the Fence for the rivals you name. It reads their offers, banners and prices for you and puts each beside yours.
  3. When Semrush shows a rival climbing for your searches, Over the Fence shows what that rival changed on its site the same week. We don’t claim one caused the other.
  4. Agencies add each client as a site, with that client’s rivals. Each of the week’s three findings links to its source, so it can go straight to the client.
  5. Semrush has an MCP server too, so one AI assistant can ask both about the same rival. Ours comes with every plan, with 2,500, 10,000 or 100,000 requests a month.

Questions

What people ask

Something else? Write to hello@overthefence.io and a person answers.

Is Over the Fence an alternative to Semrush?

Not for SEO. Semrush tracks 500 to 5,000 keywords a day, and its keyword and backlink research goes much further than ours. Over the Fence answers a narrower question: what did each of your rivals change, and what should you do about it? If you use Semrush for SEO, keep it and add us for your rivals.

Does Semrush track competitors?

Yes. Its plans include competitor analysis and Position Tracking. Its Traffic & Market toolkit, sold apart from those plans, includes Competitor Monitoring. Semrush’s help center, as captured on June 12, 2026, says it reports rivals’ new pages, blog posts, Google search ads and Facebook and Instagram posts, with weekly updates by email or Slack.

Does Semrush track a rival shop’s prices and offers?

Its Advertising toolkit includes research into rivals’ Google Shopping ads, per its pricing page as captured on October 1, 2026. The Semrush pages we read don’t describe reading a rival shop’s own prices, stock or offers product by product. That is the part Over the Fence does every day.

What does Over the Fence add to Semrush?

We read each rival shop for you. Every day we read the top of its homepage, banners included, and the prices of a short list of its products. Each offer comes with its terms, and when a rival starts a sale for everyone at least as deep as your prices rule, you get an email that day. Every week we read their whole sites and send three findings at most.

How much do Semrush and Over the Fence cost?

Semrush’s SEO plan is $139 a month and Starter, which adds AI visibility, is $199, billed monthly, per its pricing page as captured on October 2, 2026. Over the Fence costs $49 a month for 3 rivals, $119 for 6 and $249 for 12, billed monthly.

Can I try Over the Fence before I pay?
