Watch rival Shopify stores’ prices, sales, new products and sell-outs. Read every week, each with the page it came from. From $49 a month.

<div class="key">

**In short:** Over the Fence reads your rival Shopify stores for you. Every week it reads their homepage banners and offers, the price and stock of the rival products that matter most to you, and the rest of each store, so new drops, markdowns and sell-outs show up as changes. Each finding links to its source page. We also track where you and each rival rank for your searches, which sites Google’s AI Overviews cite, and what they post on Instagram.

</div>

Most online stores that care about weekly rival changes run on Shopify. New products go live, sale collections grow, free-shipping banners flip on and off, and sizes sell out. We read your rivals’ public storefronts and tell you what changed, with a link to the page we read. Nothing to install on your store or theirs.

## What rival Shopify stores change

Shopify stores share a shape: a homepage with banners, collection pages, product pages with variants, and often a sale or “last chance” collection. Across fashion, coffee and other verticals we already read, the same four moves keep coming up.

Sale racks usually grow in batches. A rival rarely marks one product down alone. They open or refill a sale collection in a decision someone made that week. That is the change most worth hearing about.

Markdowns often come in steps. Many brands stick to fixed cut depths such as 20%, 30% or 40%. Once you know a rival’s steps, you know what their next cut will look like.

New products land on set days. Some brands drop dozens of SKUs on one day. Others drip a few each week. Either way, a new product that sits next to yours in Google is worth seeing the week it appears.

Stock runs out before the product page comes down. Sold-out variants stay listed. We record whether a product on your price list is in stock or sold out. We do not report which variants are left.

Free-shipping thresholds and first-order codes often live only in a homepage banner. We read the top of each rival’s homepage the way a browser shows it, so those offers show up even when the product price itself did not move.

## What stood out

On October 20, 2026 we read five US DTC stores from their public homepages and Shopify `products.json` where it was available (Gymshark, Skims, Ridge, Mejuri and Quince). **Four of five are Shopify-readable** the same day; **Quince is the non-Shopify** storefront (custom Next.js, prices only in page data).

**Host quirks matter for JSON:** Gymshark blocks `www` `products.json` (403) but serves the bare host; Skims and Mejuri need **www** for JSON. **Promo mechanics differ:** Gymshark, Skims and Ridge expose **compare-at / sale collections**; Mejuri’s large “Spend More, Save More” / “25% Off” collections show **list prices without compare-at** in JSON (threshold and member codes); Quince uses **Today only** `promoPrice` tags on cards.

Free-shipping facts are comparable across Gymshark, Skims and Mejuri (**$75** US-style thresholds); Ridge’s clearest public number in this read is the cart reward **$35** unlock; Quince advertises free shipping with **365-day returns**, not a $ minimum on that banner. **Honest thin spots:** Mejuri has **no** strike-through markdown examples in the sampled product JSON; Quince has **no** `/products.json` stock flags (only card tags); Gymshark’s **Outlet** first-50 page looked fully unavailable even though Outlet `products_count` is huge — we don’t treat that page as “the whole outlet is sold out.”

The same reading done every week, for the products on your list and the rest of each store, is what we do for you.

## Setting it up for a Shopify store

1. **Type your store’s address.** We work out what you sell and in which country. Shopify, Shopify Plus and headless storefronts that still expose public product pages all work the same way for us.
2. **Check the rivals we suggest.** We suggest the stores that turn up beside yours in Google. Add the brands your customers compare you with, even when they don’t rank.
3. **Fill your price list.** We pick the rival products closest to yours. Swap in each rival’s version of your bestsellers.
4. **Set the alert.** By default a price move of 10% or more on your price list reaches you the day we see it, and so does a product selling out or coming back.
5. **Read the Monday email.** Three findings at most, each with its reason and a link to the source page. The dashboard keeps the rest.

There’s nothing to install. We don’t need your Shopify admin, themes or apps.

## What we don’t do

- **We don't track sizes one by one.** We see whether a product is in stock or sold out. We do not report which variants are left.
- **We don't see sales.** We can tell you a rival marked products down. We can't tell you how many they sold.
- **We don't read behind logins.** No member prices, no checkout-only offers, no Shopify app-admin data.
- **We do not reprice your catalog or act as a dynamic pricing engine.** You choose what to change.
- **We read once a week.** A flash sale that starts and ends between two reads can slip past.

## What it costs

Every plan starts with 14 days free, and you can cancel any time from your dashboard.

Large Shopify catalogs (each color as its own product) often need Growth’s page budget.

## Questions

### Do you need access to my Shopify admin?

No. We only read public pages the way a shopper would. There’s nothing to install on your store or on your rivals’.

### Does this work with Shopify Plus or headless?

Yes, as long as product and collection pages open without signing in. If a storefront hides prices until login, we can’t read those prices.

### Can you tell me when a rival starts a sale?

Yes. Every week we read the top of each rival’s homepage and offers pages. A new sale banner shows up by the next read. When a storewide cut is at least as deep as your prices rule (default 10%), you get an email the day we find it.

### Is this the same as a Shopify competitor analysis app?

Most Shopify competitor apps help you spy on themes, apps or traffic estimates. We watch what shoppers see: prices, stock, promotions, Google rankings, AI citations and Instagram posts, every week, with a link for each finding.

### Do you replace Semrush or Ahrefs?

No. Those tools are for SEO research at scale. We are a weekly store monitor for people who sell online. Many customers use both.
