Fashion moves in drops and markdowns. New ranges land on set days, sale racks grow every week and sizes sell out long before products do. We read your rivals’ stores and tell you what changed, with the page we read it on.

<div class="key">

**In short:** Over the Fence reads your rival fashion brands’ stores for you. Every day it reads their homepage banners and offers, and the price and stock of the rival products that matter most to you. Every week it reads the rest of each store, so new drops, new markdowns and products that sold out show up as changes. Each finding links to the page it came from.

## What rival fashion brands change

We read five US fashion brands’ own stores on October 8, 2026: Taylor Stitch, Outerknown, Marine Layer, Faherty and Christy Dawn. Four things stood out.

**Markdowns come in steps, and each brand has its own.** All 46 products in Taylor Stitch’s men’s Last Call were exactly 30% or 40% off. Marine Layer’s men’s Last Call ran from 15% to 54% off, bunched at about 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%. Outerknown’s men’s sale ran deeper, 28% to 71% off with a median of 42%. Once you know a rival’s steps, you know what their next cut will look like.

**Sale racks grow in batches.** Faherty added 41 products to its men’s sale on October 5 alone, and more on October 7. A batch like that is a decision someone made that week, and it’s the change most worth hearing about the day it happens.

**New ranges land on set days.** Marine Layer put out 37 new men’s products and 54 women’s on the same day, September 16, then a second, smaller drop on September 29. Faherty released 51 new men’s products on September 22. Taylor Stitch works the other way, a few at a time: 28 new products over 12 different days in a month.

**Sizes run out long before products do.** On Marine Layer’s men’s Last Call, 1,153 of 2,138 sizes were sold out, 54%. On Outerknown’s men’s sale it was 403 of 742, also 54%, and 26 sale products were still listed with every size gone. It happens on new products too. Christy Dawn’s Dawn Dress Petites in Pine Foliage came out on September 10, and by October 8 only the smallest and largest sizes were left.

Not every brand discounts. Christy Dawn had no sale collection at all, and only 1 of its 17 bestsellers was marked down. Knowing which rivals never cut tells you who you’re really competing with on price.

## The five brands, side by side

Read from each brand’s own store on October 8, 2026, in US dollars. A dash means it wasn’t on the pages we read.

| | Taylor Stitch | Outerknown | Marine Layer | Faherty | Christy Dawn |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Main sale (men’s) | 46 products in Last Call | 103 products | 327 products in Last Call | At least 250 products | No sale collection |
| How deep | 30% or 40% only | 28% to 71%, median 42% | 15% to 54%, median about 31% | 16% to 67%, median 22% | 1 bestseller at 60% |
| Sizes sold out on sale | 35% | 54% | 54% | 25% | – |
| New products in the last 30 days | 28 men’s | 23 men’s, 18 women’s | 45 men’s, 67 women’s | 81 men’s, 44 women’s | 41 |
| Biggest drop day | None, spread over 12 days | Sept 11 | Sept 16 | Sept 22 | Sept 10 |
| Free shipping from | Every US order | – | $75 | $150 | – |

Outerknown and Christy Dawn showed us their Singapore stores, so their US free-shipping minimums aren’t here. Every count comes from each store’s own public product data, read once on October 8.

## What your shoppers search for

These are US monthly searches from Google’s own figures, as of October 8, 2026. They’re the moments when a shopper compares your store with your rivals’.

| Search | US searches a month, 12-month average |
| --- | --- |
| clothing sale | 27,100 |
| mens clothing sale | 27,100 |
| womens clothing sale | 27,100 |
| sample sale | 12,100 |
| black friday clothing deals | 9,900 |
| warehouse sale | 4,400 |
| new arrivals | 4,400 |
| end of season sale | 1,600 |
| cyber monday clothing deals | 1,600 |
| clothing restock | 480 |

The averages hide the season. “Black friday clothing deals” peaked at 135,000 searches in November 2025, and “mens clothing sale” at 49,500 that December. Shoppers search for sales most in November and December. Knowing your rivals’ markdown steps before then is worth more than learning them during.

We track where you and each rival rank for your searches every week. On Growth and Scale we also show which sites Google’s AI Overviews cite for them.

## Setting it up for a fashion brand

1. **Type your store’s address.** We work out that you sell clothing, and in which country.
2. **Check the rivals we suggest.** We suggest the stores that turn up beside yours in Google. Add the brands your customers compare you with, even when they don’t rank.
3. **Fill your daily list.** We pick the rival products closest to yours. Swap in each rival’s version of your bestsellers.
4. **Set the alert.** By default a price move of 10% or more on your daily list reaches you the day we see it, and so does a product selling out or coming back.
5. **Read the Monday email.** Three findings at most, each with its reason and the page it came from. The dashboard keeps the rest.

## What we don’t do

- **We don’t track sizes one by one.** We see a product in stock or sold out, not which sizes are left.
- **We don’t see sales.** We can tell you a rival marked 49 products down this week. We can’t tell you how many they sold, and we won’t guess.
- **We don’t read behind logins.** No member prices, no app-only drops, nothing at checkout.
- **We don’t reprice your store.** We report and you decide.
- **We aren’t minute by minute.** Your daily list is read once a day and everything else once a week. A sale that lasts an hour can slip past.

## What it costs

Every plan starts with 3 days free, and you can cancel any time from your dashboard.

| Plan | Price | Rival brands per site | Products read daily | Pages read per store, weekly |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Starter | $49 a month | 3 | 10 | 500 |
| Growth | $119 a month | 6 | 25 | 2,000 |
| Scale | $249 a month | 12 | 50 | 8,000 |

Your whole team is included on every plan. Fashion stores are big: Marine Layer listed 158 products in its men’s new collection and at least 499 in its women’s Last Call on October 8, 2026, each color as its own product. If you watch rivals that size, Growth’s 2,000 pages a week is the safer start.

## Questions

### Can you tell me when a rival starts a sale?

Yes. Every day we read the top of each rival’s homepage and offers pages, so a new sale banner shows up the day it goes up. We follow the banner to its sale page and count the products on it and how deep the cuts go. When a rival starts a sale for everyone at least as deep as your prices rule, which starts at 10%, you get an email that day.

### Do you track which sizes a rival has left?

No. We record whether each product is in stock, so a product that sells out in every size, or comes back, shows up as a change. We don’t say which sizes are left. On October 8, 2026 we saw sale racks where more than half of all sizes were gone. For sizes, check the few products that matter most by hand.

### Every color is its own product on my rivals’ stores. Will you read all of them?

Every week we read up to 500, 2,000 or 8,000 pages of each rival’s store, by plan. Fashion stores often list each color as its own product, so a large rival can run past 500 pages. Put the products that matter on your daily list, and pick a plan whose weekly pages cover your biggest rival.

### Which rival products should go on my daily list?

The ones a shopper weighs against yours. Usually that’s each rival’s version of your bestsellers in the same fabric and fit, and anything they’ve just marked down. We fill the list for you and you can swap any of them. Starter reads 10 products a day, Growth 25 and Scale 50.

### Can you see a rival’s sales or sell-through?

No. We see what a rival lists, what it charges and whether it’s in stock. We can’t see how many it sold, and we don’t estimate it.

### Do you work with Shopify fashion stores?

Yes. All five brands we read for this page sell on Shopify, and we read any store whose pages open without signing in. There’s nothing to install on your store or theirs.
